- Daniel and Mark Keep Up The Pressure
- Norfolk and Norwich Pawns 1.5 - 2.5 Lowestoft B
- 17-01-2012
- Very good wins on boards 2 and 3 helped keep the B team on track for promotion. Daniel beat young Karina Chan in a tense battle, which at one point seemed to be all one way traffic for Daniel. He had an advanced pawn on the e file and this was causing young Karina a lot of problems, but she overcame this and started to cause Daniel problem, with vague threats of mate, using the queen and knight. Daniel, himself overcame these problems and slowly took control and with a three pawn advantage, didn't let go. A well constructed victory by young Daniel.
- Mark played Yi Chan, I assume Karina's father, on board 2, this seemed to throw Mark slightly, as Yi is an unknown player. Mark started slowly and showed great courage in holding off the good attacking play by Yi, it all centred round the e-file and with exchanges happening, Yi miscalculated the exchange and gobbled up the a pawn which resulted in a check take piece manoeuvre by Mark. This should have won just the rook but Yi incepted with his Queen and Mark played Rook check taking the King away from his Queen and hey presto, a Queen up instead of a Rook. Game over!!
- Jordan played Cameron on board 4, this was one of the games that I felt Jordan had a good chance of gaining a point for the team and himself. After a bright attacking start by Jordan, missing a very good knight move, explained to me by Mark afterwards, which would have totally won the game, Jordan miscalculated in the middle game and was slowly sinking. Cameron turned the screw and Jordan quickly relented. One thing I must say about Jordan is his tenaciousness. He keeps fighting to the end. He is also showing signs of understanding in the beginning section and now needs to knuckle down and start to learn the finer points of the middlegame. Mark said he would go over the game with Jordan and show him the chances he had created but didnt follow through. Jordan will become a lot better player just by playing this games. Keep it up Jordan, it will all come to you soon.
- I played Philip Bartram on board 1. Philip is having a very good season and has played and beaten some great chess players so far, so I was aware of the danger from the start. It all went down the Sicilian road again, similiar to my game against Mr Wilding of Broadland. According to Fritz I was leading all the way by, but it didnt feel like it?? Philip was getting behind on time and I felt in control at this point but didnt known the way through, Fritz showed my after, with my time quickly slipping and quick shake of the hand and a draw was agreed.
- All in all a good result for the team, next match away to Wymondham Owls on Friday 10th Feb 2012
