- After being drafted in to the A Team for the second time this season, it gave me a close up view of the matches being played. This helped in my match report for today.
- I was plonked from the B Team to board 1 of the A team, just like that. I played Les Gladwell with the black pieces, Les is a seasoned campaigner and when the game ended in a draw I was mightly relieved. A good half point to the team. All semi slav stuff, which isnt great but did the job. First to finish was Charles on board 4 against Thomas Annison, Thomas said to me in the bar that he was lost in about 17 moves and Charles plays really quick, I said thought he was playing slow tonight, which brought a giggle. Next to finish was Leons game against John Charman, all looked level barring the passed pawn Leon had created, he slowly worked the pawn up and caused problems for John all over the park and won a bit later. Well done Leon another win under the belt. The next match needs its own paragraph.
- Dean Bavister at one point was, according to Fritz 18 points ahead and had mate in four, and he still lost!! It was one of the most unbelievable games I have every seen. Mark had won a piece for two pawns and had a good position, but it was a really complex position where things can go wrong, which they did. Mark lost two quick pieces and was pawns down and his only chance was a pawn on the seventh rank. Dean just had to make simple exchanges and should have won easily, but seemed to become the blinded rabbit in the headlights and moved his rook off the back rank and wham, check, checkmate, shake hands!! Surreal.
- So a very good night for the A team 3.5 points and move in to second position, chances still there for promotion.
- Next match Home to Dons Cavaliers on 23rd, rumour has it I have been dropped?! Typical.
