It Will Be All White On The Night
With three Club Championship matches being played on Monday night, it was a chance for players to make a move or try and catch up the pack. I am in the latter. The Two Marks played again and white was victorious, Mr Pooley winning a tight end game, it seemed to me to be a very good chance of a draw, same colour bishop endings normally are. Mr Pooley had an extra pawn and this made all the difference, black I feel could have made slightly better moves in the end game, this will be found out in Mr Nettleton's analyse with Mr Fritz. Anyway, another good victory for Mr Pooley, this keeps up his charge for the elusive first Championship title. feel Mr Nettleton's dream is now over for another year.
Leon played Graham, Leon won in the end, Leon played quite well. He slowly increased the pressure on Graham game until the cracks started to appear. Feel Graham could be a little bit more bolder in his play, if you cause your opponent problems and threats, you are half way there. Another white win. Leon hasn't lost yet in the Championship and is in a very strong position, I feel the matches between himself and Daniel could have a big bearing on who really pushes for the title.
I played young Karthik and he drew the black pieces, Karthik went on with the same opening he played against Daniel, its a sharp opening and you need to know the ins and outs of it, to really understand it. You can not pick this up just like that, so maybe playing in the opening in competition will bring that experience to your game. Its an expensive decision if he back fires though. Karthik let slip a couple of pawns, which I then, after consolidation, started thinking about pushing and trying to convert the advantage and Karthik made a big blunder and it was game over. Time for bed. Karthik is showing me that he can play at our level, but needs to try and understand what he needs to do in a game and that is the "basics", put your rook on an open file, develop your bishop, control a central square, etc, etc. The rest will just fall in to place. Another white win.
Mark Pooley has taken over the leader board for himself now with 5/8, with Daniel and Leon on 4/5. Charles and myself are still in the race, but need to convert some big wins to prove this.
